During his visit, Ruiz met with leadership from MCAS Cherry Point and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), visited Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Training Squadron 2, spoke at an all-hands town hall, and attended chow with select Marines. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Ruiz, the 20th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, hosts the 2025 Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Symposium in Washington D.C., and Annapolis, Maryland, July 14-18, 2025. From across the force, over 60 senior enlisted leaders and their spouses gathered to discuss troop welfare, manpower, training and education, leadership, and policy. Throughout the week, the symposium received remarks from a range of senior leaders and speakers including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Mr. Eric J. Graduation took place at the completion of the 13-week transformation which included training for drill, marksmanship, basic combat skills, and Marine Corps customs and traditions. Following graduation, the Marines were given 10 days of leave before taking the next step in training at the School of Infantry at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
